Pam: I haven’t heard anything, but I bet Jim got the job. I mean, why wouldn’t he? He’s totally qualified, and smart, everyone loves him. And if he never comes back again, that’s okay. We’re friends. And I’m sure we’ll stay friends. We just … we never got the timing right, you know? I shot him down and then he did the same to me, but you know what? It’s okay. I am totally fine. Everything is going to be totally …
Jim: Pam. Sorry. Um, are you free for dinner tonight?
Pam: Yes.
Jim: All right. Then … it’s a date.The Office, 3.23 - The Job.
First record store run in months… and we found the Snow Patrol album “Final Straw.” I felt a little hesitant at first… because I don’t know how much I would like other Snow Patrol albums (other than A Hundred Million Suns, which I love).
My first impression was that it was more upbeat, less “soft,” and darker. The lyrics are definitely very different from A Hundred Million Suns, and it also has a significantly different theme and mood. I really like this album though… I guess I do like Snow Patrol, and not just their happy side.
Here are the quotes that hit me.
“If it looks like it works and it feels like it works
Then it works
With the sun on your face
All these worries will soon disappear
I find careful patterns in the snow
It seems you did come round but changed your mind”
-Wow
“It’s not as simple as
How much you think you care
You would never know”
-Gleaming Auction
“This could be the very minute
I’m aware I’m alive
All these places feel like home”
-Chocolate
“I struggle for the words and then give up
A little piece of mind that I know better
Than the plain disgrace of all my letters
Please take your time I’m not in any rush
And it’s in everything I ever write
It’s not as if I need the extra weight
Confused enough by life so thanks a lot”
-Spitting Games
“I’ve been waiting here my whole damn life
And I’ve forgotten what I wanted”
-Ways and Means
“Maybe somewhere else
Will not be half as cold as me
The curtains drawn the winter sun
Makes patterns on your face
It looks like some kaleidoscopic breathing exercise”
-Same
Add to Sun Quotes:
“The Sun”- Maroon 5

“Not So Tough Found Out”- Copeland

December 15th:
“If it looks like it works and it feels like it works
Then it works
With the sun on your face
All these worries will soon disappear”
-Wow, Snow Patrol
“Waiting on the sun to rise
Passing ships into the night
Under different skies”
-We Are One, The Fray
This summer I got Death Cab for Cutie’s “The Photo Album” and I have had bits and pieces of it stuck in my head for most of the summer.
The songs also relate a lot to what I did this summer.
Steadier Footing:
I feel like most of my deep conversations consist of this…
“But we just talk about the people we’ve met in the last 5 years.
And will remember them in ten more?”
A Movie Script Ending:
Besides watching a ton of movies (Drive-In’s, Dollar Theater) and the sadness/epicness that was the end of Harry Potter… this song also reflects a lot of my summer.
“Passing through unconscious states.
When I awoke I was on the highway”
(I like to fall asleep on long car rides… and awake to find we are still on the highway, lol)
We Laugh Indoors:
Well, we do.
“When we laugh indoors, the blissful tones bounce off the walls and fall to the ground.”
Information Travels Faster:
It does. Especially when you are on Facebook all day… lol
“As information travels faster in the modern age, in the modern age
As our days are crawling by so slowly”
(Also have that first line stuck in my head a lot…)
Why You’d Want To Live Here:
I did visit California this summer, always kind of passing through LA (horrible traffic… but I usually slept through it (see Movie Script Ending)) Had this song stuck in my head for days when I was in Cali, though I was in a better area and had a great time… My cousin does live there now, hope he isn’t experiencing this…
“I’m in Los Angeles today…
Garbage cans comprise the medians of freeways always creaping
Even when the population’s sleeping.”
Blacking Out The Friction:
Not much in this song, but we did cross the country, and I will kind of cross the country alone later….
“The hardest part is yet to come
When you will cross the country alone.”
I Was A Kaliedoscope:
I love this song. So happy dancing to it…
Not much to relate to though, it’s summer not winter.
Styrofoam Plates:
This song was stuck in my head a lot too. But so bitter, not much to relate to again.
Coney Island:
Stuck in my head entire time in NY. Every time I saw a reference or shirt saying Coney Island, even though we didn’t visit there.
“I can hear the atlantic echo back roller coaster screams from summers past.”
Debate Exposes Doubt:
Listened to this song the most. Addicted to it. Beautifully haunting, and it really makes me think. I’ve spent hours trying to figure out what it means. Love every lyric. I focus mostly on the last verse, which I related to a lot this summer.
“Finally there is clarity… this tiny life is making sense, and every drop numbs the both of us, but I alone am staggering.”
And love put up an awful fight.
You never made your peace with it.
So stay where you are.
And hold what you love.
And feel what you want.
And know all the while.
Don’t hurt ‘til it’s done.
I’m gonna make a list of albums I want to find/get/download before I leave for Costa Rica. I prolly will not be able to get new music there and will want enough to last all semester, lol. Also, most of these are albums I’ve been meaning to get for a while now.
“You Are My Sunshine”- Copeland (CD would be better, maybe itunes)
“The Grey Man EP”- Copeland (on amazon)
